Gilding is a craft of applying thin sheets of metal leaf to a surface to create the look of gold. Historians haven't traced the origin of this craft, but it's said that gilding was practiced as far back as the ancient Egyptians. The essential methods of gilding have remained unchanged all this time through the centuries. Gilded wood beautifully reflects light just like gold metal — gilded objects have a brilliant, durable golden finish that spray paint or gold paint can't come close to matching. Chris and Jen gild all Cabin 7 pieces by hand, applying the same method for oil gilding as furniture restorers use on antique pieces. Each item has been delicately worked on with love and the magic of gilding.
